80's skate rock like this sounds like DNA on bossanova and lots of cocaine.
This is an old, hard time find documentary that was made about dogtown ( pretty much).. put on by a british program called "the world about us." now on google video! if you got some time to kill and wanna brush up on your bro lingo circa 1978. And there's some serious lingo. it's about 50 minutes of sunbaked nostalgia. there's some seriously random shit in here it's pretty funny, like shots of mexican immigrant workers drudgingly manufacturing urethane wheels?
Since I can't post Marisa's part from the zero video ( solid varial heel down 10 ), this youtube will have to do. 1965 man, what a year. It didn't matter if you pushed mongo then cause everyone did! mongo was tuff then. i like how there's a mariachi guy and a black panther acting as judges. i'd rather watch people tic tacking in 1965 than watch the zero video in all of it's hammer time entireity.
Jumping, 1984. A 6 minute animation film (not anime style) showing the world from the point of view of a bouncing ball (or jumping child). Each jump of the camera goes higher, each landing is a visual surprise (i.e, a city setting, a jungle, the ocean floor, a battle field in wartime, the depths of Hell, etc.). The amazingly moving perspective was all drawn by hand. "Jumping" won the won the Grand Prize at the 1984 Zagreb World Festival of Animated Films.
Sorry, Busenitz should have been skater of the year. Sure, Danny Way's been skater of the year twice.. but it don't mean Chris Cole should have been! Shit is stoops! The style, the tricks, the speed, everything. Anyone that's been skating and paying attention to skating for longer than FIVE years knows this shit. Especially when it comes to style. ( I.E. World Industries, Mongo footed era). Whatever, Chris coles been bangin' out tricks over wallenberg, barely beating busenitz at a berrics game of skate, but i still think busenitz should have won it. YEAH WALLENBERG IS FUCKING HUGE, but going big is, to me, not the most crucial demonstration of one's control over a skateboard. ( obviously?) People are only going to get better at skateboarding. It's the stalest fact of athletic type activities. When given enough time and lucrative end money opportunity scenario, why wouldn't everyone and their mom be able to do christ airs and switch 360 heelflips over wallenberg? I mean Danny Gonzales was doing kickflip melons everyday even 10 years ago over wallenberg. isn't it logical that someone like chris cole would be conceived? Fuck the 88 people on thrasher that voted, including me.
