THIS AMERICAN LIFE
Recently I wrote to Todd at the Selby blog to maybe see if he could do a feature on the factory I've been working at. The following is the email I sent. I just sent him a few of the many I took at the factory. And of course I'm putting the rest of my photos on here. Hopefully it works out!
My name is ______________ and it is my hope that you will consider doing a feature on the factory I currently find myself with. Recently, you posted a feature on Martin Greenfield who is a renowned clothing manufacturer based in Bushwick. I thought to myself how fitting it would be to also do a piece on Alan Hangad who owns, operates, and works in an exceptional accessories production factory in Brooklyn.
I've interned/apprenticed at two local establishments in New York including E. Vogel Custom Boots & Shoes and now at the House of Couture Accessories ( formerly Debi Belt). The reason why I have found myself at such places is because I have personally found an interest in pursuing shoemaking and now accessories outside of the standard American fashion school. With these more personalizing relationships and encounters with not only the owners but also the craftsmen and craftswomen, I have found the time spent in these places invaluable and worthwhile. Like Martin, Alan has worked with so many designers through the ages. I find it fulfilling to see and appreciate the people that have, for the most part, remained largely anonymous yet vitally connected to the remains of our American industry.
I have taken a few photos as requested via your website.
Thank you for your time!
